Thunder Racing League was founded in 2004 under the Nascar Thunder 2004 PC platform. TRL began as a once a week event with members of various leagues coming together to have a fun and relaxed racing environment. Not too long after, interest became strong enough that TRL became a full-fledged racing league dedicated to providing a top tier racing experience.

Over the years, TRL has evolved with the times. In 2006, TRL quickly grew in numbers with new memberships and the absorption of the Top Notch Racing League. In 2008, TRL faced the ultimate obstacle, when Nascar Thunder 2004 became an unsupported game. As a result, TRL moved forward with the sim game of the future: rFactor. Over the years, TRL has run several different stockcar mods (rFactor Stockcars, VHRacing, rFactor Black Edition) and found its current home with Stockcar Sim Series. By early 2009, TRL had gone from a weekly racing league, to running multiple different series on several nights of the week.

In present day, TRL is running weekly Cup Series races on Sunday nights and Xfinity Series races on Sunday Mornings using the Stockcar Sim Series mod. 

 

Some highlights include:

- Quicker races (typically around an hour from Green Flag to Checkered)

- 15 week seasons, allowing 2 or more new champions per year

- A tight group of members that help each other with setups and racing strategies

- Lighter damage (30%) to provide the opportunity for everyone to complete the race

- A mixture of tracks (most of the current Nascar circuit)
